What is Wrong With Alcohol?
Is it okay to drink alcohol or wine?
Proverbs 20:1 says, "Wine is a mocker strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise." Isaiah 5:11 also warns, "Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!" However, some may argue that Jesus turned water into wine. Mark 15:23 mentions that they offered Jesus wine mixed with myrrh, but he refused to drink it. Judges 13:4 also advises against drinking wine or strong drink.
It's worth noting that the Bible mentions two types of wines: fermented (alcoholic) and unfermented (grape juice). Jesus did not drink strong drink, and he would not teach others to do otherwise.
What happens to those who drink? Proverbs 31:6 says, "Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts..." Meanwhile, 1 Corinthians 6:10 warns, "Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God."
But what if we've been drunk before? Proverbs 28:13 reminds us, "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." James 4:17 also notes, "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." When the Holy Spirit convicts us of wrongdoing, we should confess and turn away from it. Acts 17:30 says, "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent."
If we persist in doing sinful things that we know are wrong, we are accountable. The following two steps are crucial: Confession - which involves admitting guilt, and Forsaking - which requires turning away from wrongdoing. Although God can discern our thoughts, it is our responsibility to express remorse for our actions by confessing. (Jeremiah 17:10).
It's essential to live a healthy lifestyle because our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." 1 Corinthians 3:17 also warns that if anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy them.
Didn't doctors suggested that a glass of wine per day is good for the heart?
"it is also now well recognized that drinking even low amounts of alcohol can increase the risk of breast cancer, the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the U.S. and worldwide. Compared to non-drinkers, there is a 10% to 12% higher risk of female breast cancer associated with each drink per day." (Source: By Susan M. Gapstur, PhD ... Some doctors suggest that a glass of wine per day is good for the heart. However, studies have also shown that even low amounts of alcohol can increase the risk of breast cancer. Therefore, it's best to avoid alcohol altogether. As followers of Christ, we must trust in God and His words and we must prioritize our faith over anything else.
